Line Editing: $0.008 per word

I will check grammar, syntax, vocabulary and spelling, paying attention to redundancy, idiom and slang. While I will point out usages that are awkward, I will not hold an author to any particular manual of style. Your style is your own, and various authors have successfully broken every single rule of grammar. I will, however, suggest corrections if I feel the style will inhibit sales. A full line edit will involve up to three complete readings of the text. The manuscript will be returned to you with annotations after each reading, and another pass will be scheduled as soon as you return it to me.

Deliverable: Detailed commentary inline in your text (I will either return an annotated .DOC file if you send your work in that format, or an annotated PDF otherwise) and a one-page summary.
Time: typically 4-6 weeks (total) for an 80- to 120,000 word novel.
Note: Line editing does not include Content editing. If you need both, see Literary editing.

A Content Edit focuses on character development, continuity and structure of plot, pace, style and narrative voice. The content edit requires up to three readings of the text. If you just want a summary of of impressions of readability, plot and characterization (i.e., a book review),  for an already-edited manuscript, we can provide a beta-reading service. However, this is not a copy-editing service and, while general impressions of style, grammar and spelling will be reported, don't expect any detail.

Time: Generally 1 week.
